Test #1: High Pressure 0 Minute + Quick Release

  • Texture: fully cooked, crisp & crunchy
  • Taste: natural flavors well preserved
  • Looks: beautiful bright green color

Test #2: High Pressure 2 Minutes + Quick Release

  • Texture: fully cooked, tender, much softer than Test #1 (but not mushy), easier to bite & digest
  • Taste: still flavorful, lost a little bit of the fresh broccoli flavors
  • Looks: lost some of the deep bright green color

Test #3: Low Pressure 0 Minute + Quick Release

*Note: We increased the amount of broccoli (360g broccoli, cut into 2 cups florets) and used the same amount of liquid (½ cup cold water).

Conclusion

Ingredients

  • 1-2 heads (194g/ea) broccoli , cut into florets
  • ½ cup (125ml) water

Instructions 

  • Pressure Cook Broccoli in Instant Pot: Pour ½ cup (125ml) cold water in Instant Pot. Place Steamer Basket in Instant Pot, then layer broccoli florets on it. 
    Pressure cook at High Pressure:
    -For 2-3 cups of broccoli: 0 min for crunchy, 1 min for tender
    -For 1 cup of broccoli: 1 min for crunchy, 2 mins for tender
    Then immediately Quick Release. 
  • Serve Instant Pot Broccoli: Remove broccoli immediately to prevent overcooking. Season with salt & black pepper if desired, then serve!

Notes

Quick Release: To prevent overcooking, it's critical to release pressure immediately when broccoli is done pressure cooking.
