Ingredients for Homemade Salsa Recipe (Pico de Gallo)
- ~700 grams tomatoes (we used 4 (400g) roma, 3 (200g) cocktail, and 8 (90g) grape tomatoes), roughly diced
- 1 (280g) red onion, finely diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 38 grams fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- 1 (61g) Jalapeno, finely diced
- 80 grams juice from 1 – 2 fresh lime
- Kosher Salt
- Ground black pepper to taste
What Types of Tomatoes to Use?
We used three different kinds of tomatoes to increase the complexity of the Salsa. You can use any of your favorite tomatoes. 🙂
Instructions for Homemade Salsa Recipe (Pico de Gallo)
Step 1
Prepare the Salsa Ingredients
~700 grams tomatoes (we used 4 (400g) roma, 3 (200g) cocktail, and 8 (90g) grape tomatoes), roughly diced
1 (280g) red onion, finely diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
38 grams fresh cilantro, finely chopped
1 (61g) Jalapeno, finely diced
Prepare the ingredients by cutting from driest to wettest.
Step 2
Make Salsa Fresca
Diced tomatoes
Finely diced red onions
Minced garlic
Finely chopped fresh cilantro
Finely diced Jalapeno
80 grams juice from 1 – 2 fresh lime
Kosher Salt
Ground black pepper
Add diced tomatoes, diced red onions, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro in a large mixing bowl. Mix well.
Taste one piece of finely diced Jalapeno to determine the spiciness level. Add in the amount of Jalapeno based on your personal preference (we added roughly 3 tbsp). Mix well.
Squeeze juice from 1 lime and mix well.
Season with Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper. Mix well.
Taste and adjust accordingly. Make sure everything is balanced. Add in the juice from another lime if necessary.
Step 3
Serve Homemade Salsa (Pico de Gallo)
Serve Fresh Homemade Salsa on top of tacos or as a side dish. Enjoy~ 🙂

Homemade Salsa Storage:
You can store the Homemade Salsa in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Prevent Watery Salsa with Salt:
Salt will draw out the moisture from fresh tomatoes.
So, if you don’t like your Salsa to be too wet, place the diced tomatoes in a mesh strainer and mix them with 1 tsp kosher salt for 20 – 30 minutes prior to mixing them with the rest of the ingredients.
